Pratt & Whitney GTF™ Engines to power 21 E195-E2 Aircraft for KLM Cityhopper

EAST HARTFORD, November 19, 2019 -- Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), today announced that KLM Cityhopper (KLM) has placed an order for 21 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF™ engines, with purchase rights for an additional 14 aircraft. Pratt & Whitney will also provide KLM with engine maintenance through a long-term EngineWise® Comprehensive service agreement. The GTF engine exclusively powers the E195-E2 platform. The 21 firm aircraft will be acquired via operating lease from Aircastle and ICBC Aviation Leasing. The aircraft are expected to enter into service beginning in 2021.
KLM was one of Pratt & Whitney’s original customers, dating back to 1930 with the operation of Pratt & Whitney WASP engines on their Fokker aircraft. This year, the airline celebrated its 100th anniversary and now looks to the future with the E195-E2s.
"Pratt & Whitney and KLM share a long and rich history together,” said Rick Deurloo, Chief Customer Officer and senior vice president, Customers at Pratt & Whitney. “It is spectacular to come full circle as we embark on a new journey with KLM to support their next generation Embraer E195-E2 fleet powered by the most advanced propulsion technology available.”
In addition to being selected as the exclusive propulsion system for the E2 commercial aircraft, Pratt & Whitney’s APS2600E auxiliary power unit (APU) is the sole-sourced APU for the E2 family. The APS2600E APU gives airlines greater flexibility, by increasing the altitude ceiling for Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards (ETOPS) and other operations, and providing a significant increase in electrical power delivery to meet the needs of today’s airlines.
The E195-E2 aircraft provides more than 24% reduction in fuel burn per seat than the previous-generation E195, with NOx emissions 50% below the ICAO CAEP/6 regulation and 19dB to 20dB of ICAO Chapter 4 cumulative noise margin.
