Pratt & Whitney and Japan Airlines Sign Maintenance Service Agreements for 77 Auxiliary Power Units
PARIS, JUNE 18, 2019 – Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), is pleased to announce it has signed a five-year agreement with Japan Airlines (JAL) for the ongoing maintenance of 45 APS 5000 auxiliary power units (APUs) aboard the airline’s fleet of Boeing 787 aircraft, and a four-year agreement to supply similar maintenance services for JAL subsidiary J-Air’s 32 APS 2300 APUs installed in their fleet of Embraer 170/190 aircraft.

P&W currently has thousands of its APUs under similar maintenance agreements and supporting our customers to ensure that commercial flights take off on time and operate efficiently around the world is a top priority.”
The APS 5000 was developed specifically for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and entered into service in October, 2011. The industry’s first all-electric APU, the APS 5000, is simple in design and develops 450kVA of electrical power at sea level that starts and operates up to 43,100 feet. It is the quietest APU in its class with the lowest emissions in the industry.
The APS 2300 was developed for the Embraer 170/190 and entered into service in 2002. As with the APS 5000, the APS 2300 features a simple core design along with such advanced technologies as an electric motor driven fuel module and a start power control unit for reliable starting under all operating conditions.
