Discovery Channel Canada: GTF Engine a 'Revolutionary Step Forward'

Pratt & Whitney's PurePower® Geared Turbofan™ engine was recently profiled by Discovery Channel Canada for its revolutionary technology and profound impact on the aviation industry.

The video – which said that inserting a gear box into the jet engine is a 'revolutionary step forward' – featured Pratt & Whitney employees who have been instrumental in the success of the GTF, including Mike McCune, design manager, Fan Drive Gear Systems, who has performed instrumental work on the gear system for over 20 years.

"It's easy to get people engaged and excited when they have game-changing technology like this that they know they're going to be a part of," said Eric Ross, general manager, Pratt & Whitney West Palm Beach Engine Center, also featured in the video. "They get to build, they get to test, they get to see the product go out the door. At the end of the day, we've done a great thing for the industry."

The video highlighted the revolutionary technology behind the engine, setting it apart from other jet engines, as well as the significant reductions in fuel burn, environmental emissions and noise output.
