From Taking Apart Toys to Analyzing Engine Builds, INROADS Intern is Living the Dream

For most kids, a dream career involves tossing a ball around, being on the big screen, or saving people's lives. But for Hartford, Connecticut, native Kadian Hall, the future has always included a career in engineering.
Hall has always had a passion for learning how things work. As a kid, he could be found taking apart his toys and analyzing their intricacies to learn how they functioned. Today, Hall is a rising senior at the University of Hartford, and while he has matured greatly, his passion for engineering, and for learning, remains. Hall is currently in his third year as an INROADS intern at UTC.
Hall is spending this summer at Pratt & Whitney in the Product Delivery Center Cost Reduction Engineering department. His projects include build studies for the F135 Horizontal Assembly Line and the Airbus A320neo Fan Drive Compressor Module.
"Kadian is eager to learn. He uses his strong collegiate team leadership experience to make the projects he works on a success," said Dagny Bronson, manager, Cost Reduction/Engineering Services and Hall's current supervisor.
Hall has also earned a larger role within the INROADS organization this summer. He has led multiple INROADS events and has been named the 2016 INROADS Intern of the Year.
"It was a huge honor to receive this tremendous award. There is no doubt in my mind that I would not have been as successful as I've been at UTC if it wasn't for the INROADS program," Hall said.
Hall spent his first two summers at UTC with Otis Elevator as an International Sales Representative intern and UTC Aerospace Systems as a member of the Quality Engineering department.
"I consider my experience with UTC extremely valuable," Hall said. "I have gained great real-world experience and discovered what I'm getting myself into in terms of entering the workforce as a professional."
In his spare time, Hall coaches youth basketball as the head coach of the Connecticut Elite Basketball Program in the 11-year-olds division. Hall also runs Juice Entertainment, an entertainment corporation specializing in filming weddings, parties and other events.
Hall has fulfilled the promise he made to his father to graduate college and is beginning to fulfill his dream of becoming an engineer.
When looking back on his time with UTC, Hall concluded, "I certainly wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for the INROADS program and UTC. UTC has taught me how to be a professional, it has taught me discipline and how to carry a great attitude with me at all times. UTC has played a huge part in shaping me into the man I am today."
