Pratt & Whitney's Michael McCune Inducted into Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering
EAST HARTFORD, CONN., WEDNESDAY, MAY 25, 2016
The Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering (CASE) yesterday inducted Michael McCune, Pratt & Whitney's design manager, Mechanical Systems, recognizing him among the state's leading experts in science, engineering and technology. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company.
McCune's induction is in recognition of his outstanding technical contributions to Pratt & Whitney's revolutionary PurePower® Geared Turbofan™ engine family, which delivers performance benefits including a 16 percent fuel burn reduction, 50 percent emissions reduction and 75 percent reduction in noise footprint.
The induction ceremony also recognized United Technologies Research Center's Dr. Isaac Cohen, executive director, Research Operations and Dr. Michael Francis, chief, Advanced Programs and senior fellow, Autonomous and Intelligent Systems. Pratt & Whitney's Vice President of Engineering Tom Prete was inducted in 2014.

The Academy elects new members based on scientific and engineering distinction achieved through significant contributions in theory or applications, as demonstrated by original published books and papers, patents, the pioneering of new and developing fields and innovative products, outstanding leadership of nationally recognized technical teams, and external professional awards in recognition of scientific and engineering excellence. The Academy currently has 394 members.
McCune holds 74 patents and has one technical publication. He is a member of the American Gear Manufacturing Association and the Gear Research Institute. McCune was a recipient of the 2009 Aviation Week Laureate Award in Aeronautics/Propulsion and was named a 2008 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Hartford Chapter's Distinguished Engineer of the Year.
