The Production Ramp and Pratt & Whitney's Industrial Readiness Featured in Aviation Week Cover Story, Online Articles

Pratt & Whitney's production ramp - and the resources being committed to making it a success - are being highlighted in a major way by Aviation Week & Space Technology. The magazine posted two articles on its website last week and the company is featured in the cover story of both the current online and print editions. The print cover shows Pratt & Whitney's PW1100G-JM PurePower® Geared Turbofan™ engine horizontal assembly production line at the Middletown Engine Center.
The coverage is the result of recent visits by Aviation Week Senior Editor Guy Norris to Pratt & Whitney's East Hartford and Middletown, Connecticut, facilities and the UPS Logistics Center (Northeast Logistics Center) in Londonderry, New Hampshire. Norris interviewed company leaders and the articles highlight Pratt & Whitney's leadership in supply chain, production, assembly and manufacturing technology, as well as reinforce its preparedness to meet delivery commitments.
The two online articles are headlined "Behind The Scenes of P&W's Production Plant" and "Automation Is Key to Pratt & Whitney Ramp-up Plan." The "behind the scenes" article describes operations at the UPS Logistics Center, the company's centralized parts distribution hub. Among those quoted are Pratt & Whitney President Bob Leduc; Senior Vice President of Operations Danny Di Perna; Vice President of Global Materials and Logistics Earl Exum; and Vice President of Manufacturing and Module Center Operations Sergio Loureiro.
The "automation" article explores the company's use of new automated manufacturing technology and other advances to meet production ramp across its military and commercial engine lines. Di Perna, Compression System Module Center General Manager Maya Raichelson and Hot Section Module Center General Manager Dave Bonsall are featured.
