Pratt & Whitney Engineer Elected into National Academy of Engineering

EAST HARTFORD, CONN., MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2016

The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) recently elected Pratt & Whitney engineer Dr. Michael Maloney as one of 80 new Academy members for his significant contributions to the development and implementation of low-conductivity thermal barrier coatings for Pratt & Whitney's advanced aircraft engines. Pratt & Whitney is a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

"Michael is known throughout the aerospace industry as a leading expert in thermal barrier coatings, which are among the innovative technologies in our next-generation engines currently ushering in a new era in aviation," said Pratt & Whitney's Tom Prete, vice president, Engineering. "In addition to his technical contributions, he is a dedicated mentor and truly deserving of this prestigious recognition."

NAE membership is among the highest professional distinctions bestowed upon an engineer. To be eligible for election, potential members must have contributed significantly to engineering research, practice or education and have pioneered new fields of technology, advanced traditional fields of engineering or innovated approaches to engineering education. This year's election brings NAE total membership to 2,275 worldwide.
