Vivian Vidal Otero: 'Our Customers Rely on Us.'
November is World Quality Month. Find out what Pratt & Whitney Quality employees find rewarding about their jobs and why Quality is such an important factor in the company's success.
Quality Counts
Vivian Vidal Otero: My name is Vivian Vidal Otero. I work in Supplier Quality and I have been with the company for seven years. I actually studied industrial engineering at the University of Puerto Rico. I'm actually from Puerto Rico. I have a master's degree in operations management.
Vivian Vidal Otero: So I am the deputy quality manager for airfoils and IBRs in Supplier Quality. From a technical standpoint, you get to use your brain and you find a solution to problems. I love it. I really do. I think the biggest thing I've learned in Quality is how important our function is.
Vivian Vidal Otero: Our customers rely on us. When that product goes out the door, it meets the requirement. But if you think about it, it is bigger than that. We fly every day, whether in commercial or our pilots from a military standpoint, and we want them to come home safe. So I take my job very seriously.
Vivian Vidal Otero: I think that's how important quality is. If you think about it from a business standpoint, also quality has a direct impact on cost. So the more build quality into our process, the less problems we're going to have at the tail end of the process. So that's also a reason why I love quality. I think it's so important.
Vivian Vidal Otero: I think this is the time right now. There's so much opportunity for growth. If you think about it, we are the sole source for the F135. We have so much sales right now with the NGPF. It's the best time to join our team. Pratt & Whitney Quality will give you the opportunity to find solutions to problems and to also help deliver the best and most wonderful product in the world.
