Matt Gormley: 'We Keep That Eagle Flying.'

November is World Quality Month. Find out what Pratt & Whitney Quality employees find rewarding about their jobs and why Quality is such an important factor in the company's success.

Quality Counts

Matt Gormley: Hi. My name is Matt Gormley. I've been working for Pratt & Whitney for 11 years. I currently work in the [Materials Control Lab] as a non-destructive testing engineer in Level III. I've been supporting the Columbus, Georgia, facility, as I recently moved to the area.

Matt Gormley: I've worked my whole career actually in quality and at Pratt & Whitney. It's been pretty amazing. In Non-Destructive Testing Level III, there's multiple methods, right? Anywhere from surface inspection methods to sub-surface inspection methods. Those would go from F.P.I. (fluorescent penetrant inspection) as a surface inspection method and X-ray as a sub-surface inspection method.

Matt Gormley: What we're doing is looking for flaws and failures in parts. It's an inspection technique that's carried out on pretty much every single part that we have, from forgings to castings to small widgets that we deal with. We want to know that inspection that was carried out on that part. It's going to be running for 40, 50, 60 years. We can travel and be with our families and come home safe.

Matt Gormley: What I love about the job is that we keep that eagle flying. We uphold that integrity, that high level of integrity. And we do what's right, every single day.
