Quality and EH&S Employees Hold Community Service Work Day

Employees from Pratt & Whitney's Quality and EH&S departments recently joined student interns and faculty from Central Connecticut State University for a community service work day to benefit Interval House, a facility for women and children who have experienced psychological and physical abuse from their spouses or partners.

The Hartford, Connecticut-based facility not only provides shelter for women and their children, but also offers them counseling, legal help and educational opportunities.

The service day involved using energy efficient supplies to create custom shelving and insulate a garage. The supplies were provided by Pratt & Whitney Green Power Grant, championed by Mary Anne Cannon, vice president, Quality and EH&S. In addition, the group raked and cleaned the playground areas and applied 5S to the facility's storage areas, removing any broken items or waste to keep the area safe for everyone.

The next project the group will tackle under the grant involves the installation of energy efficient windows in the shelter's kitchen and dining areas.
