Pratt & Whitney Employees Pedal to Benefit United Way During UTC Bike Ride
Pratt & Whitney employees pedaled away for a great cause during the fifth annual United Way Bike Ride sponsored by UTC Building & Industrial Systems. The event held Sept. 5, provided employees, family, friends and UTC business partners the opportunity to bike ride throughout the Farmington (Connecticut) valley while supporting the community and United Way.
More than 120 riders from all UTC divisions, including 38 from Pratt & Whitney, participated in the event, which raised $23,000. Since its inception in 2010, the event has generated almost $100,000 for the United Way.
"I've been personally involved in this UTC event since 2011. From the ride's inception, participation by Pratt & Whitney employees has been stellar, including members of the Pratt & Whitney Bicycling Club and other like-minded participants who are drawn to this well organized United Way event," said John Interlandi, Pratt & Whitney's event coordinator. "As participants, we're left with a true sense of accomplishment for efforts exerted and money raised for the community."
The bike ride, which started at Winding Trails in Farmington, offered riders a choice of a 30-, 50- and 62-mile course. Following the ride, participants enjoyed a barbeque, ice cream and music. Cynthia Girgenti and Lauren Gray, two of the Pratt & Whitney participants, thoroughly enjoyed the day.
"It was a wonderful and exuberant event cycling 35 miles through the beautiful Farmington valley while supporting an outstanding cause," said Girgenti.
"The UTC bike ride is a fantastic way to support a worthy cause – it's a beautiful ride with great options for all ranges from beginners to avid cyclists," added Gray.
