Pratt & Whitney Chief Operating Officer Paul Adams Elected to the National Academy of Engineering
Pratt & Whitney Chief Operating Officer (COO) Paul Adams was elected to membership in the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), the NAE announced Feb. 7. This honor is among the highest professional distinctions for an engineer.
Adams is among 69 new members elected to the NAE and was chosen "for leadership and innovation for gas turbine engines, especially the Geared Turbofan™," according to the organization. The new members will be inducted on Oct. 6, 2013, in Washington, D.C.
Adams joins Alan Epstein, Pratt & Whitney vice president of Technology & Environment, and former Pratt & Whitney Presidents Steve Finger, James O'Connor and Dick Coar, and former P&W Senior Vice President of Engineering Ed Crow and former Executive Vice President of Engineering & Technology Bernard Koff as current NAE members.
In 2012, Adams was inducted into the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering for his technical leadership in the engineering development and production of game-changing technological products such as Pratt & Whitney's PurePower® Geared Turbofan™ engine. He also received the 2012 American Society of Mechanical Engineering Computers & Information in Engineering Leadership Award for advancing the use of computers and information in engineering.
Adams was appointed COO in January 2013. He has more than 30 years of leadership experience in program management and engineering with extensive global experience in the aircraft engine industry. Prior to becoming COO, he was the senior vice president of Operations & Engineering, where he led new product development, technology strategy, manufacturing operations and supply chain management.
