In 2014, United Technologies and the State of Connecticut announced an agreement (the Connecticut Aerospace Reinvestment Act – CARA) under which UTC will invest up to $500 million to upgrade and expand its aerospace research, development and manufacturing facilities over the next 5 years. The centerpiece of the agreement is a new 425,000-square-foot world-class engineering building for Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, along with significant capital investments in its factory operations in Middletown and East Hartford. This partnership with the State of Connecticut represents the start of a bright new chapter for Pratt & Whitney, for the thousands of Connecticut businesses that work with the company, and for the people of the state. Pratt & Whitney will continue to help drive economic growth in the state, ensuring Connecticut will remain a worldwide center for aerospace engineering, innovation and product development for years to come.

Pratt & Whitney’s new state-of-the-art Engineering & Technology Center has 425,000 square feet of space and will accommodate up to 1,750 employees. It is the largest building on the East Hartford campus, and set at a 28 degree angle to allow for a perfect view of the Hartford skyline and surrounding areas. The new building was designed with extensive feedback from engineers to ensure more open collaboration. The facility has 100 conference rooms, eight mothers rooms, four mediations rooms, and a cafeteria that can accommodate approximately 500 employees at a time. The building is being considered for LEED Gold certification, due to sustainable construction practices and many other environmentally friendly features, such as all LED lighting and daylight harvesting.
